March 2018 12 Industry Prince William County Selected for New Home of USTA Mid-Atlantic PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The United States Tennis Association Mid- Atlantic Section (USTA MAS) announced it will move its headquarters to Prince William County, Va., to create a new home of Mid-Atlantic tennis. In 2017, Mid-Atlantic had 1.1 million tennis players age six and older, according to research by the Tennis Industry Association. The report found tennis had been on the rise since 2014, growing 181,000 players each year with participation increasing an average of 9.3 percent since 2012. The study also found the Mid-Atlantic Section has the highest percentage of non- players interested in learning to play the game. The organization said court infrastructure had become lim- ited and the lack of courts did not serve the demands of the local community or tennis. The new complex is expected to contribute $12.1 million annually in economic incentive to support USTA Mid-Atlantic in the county.
