November 2017 14 www.sportseventsmagazine.com Welcome! Go Cedar Rapids, our host convention and visitors' bureau, surprised early arrivals with pizza and beer pong while Sunday night NFL football games played in the background. What a great night in beautiful downtown Cedar Rapids to meet new people and catch up with old friends before the conference got underway. Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Sept. 18 – 21, 2017 S.P.O.R.T.S. 2017 RECAP! We Had A Blast At Annual Golf Scramble The rainy weather turned to sunny skies for the Annual S.P.O.R.T.S Golf Scramble sponsored once again by MGM Resorts International. Golfers enjoyed Ellis Golf Course's beautifully landscaped, 100-year-old forest, generous fairways and challenging greens while building relation- ships and competing for bragging rights. While some folks were enjoying the golf scramble, others embarked on tours of the city with groups splitting up to either tour the Amana Colonies, seven villages where German Pietists lived a communal existence for 80 years. Other groups visited the Cedar Ridge Vineyard and Distillery or experienced the growing craft beer scene at local breweries such as the Black Sheep Social Club and Iowa Brewing Company. Following the day's activities Go Cedar Rapids struck up the band – the local marching band – and kicked off a progressive opening party at the U.S. Cellular Arena where attendees shot baskets, played football and tried their skills in a rousing game of human foosball. Follow- ing the band, the progressive party moved to Veterans Memorial Stadium for ballpark food and spirits, batting practice and games of chance. The night wrapped up at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena for dessert, cocktails, figure skating, hockey and curling in the multipurpose facility. Behind The Scenes Our SportsEvents team prepared welcome bags, coordinated trans- portation and set up meeting spaces in preparation for everyone to arrive for S.P.O.R.T.S. 2017. It was mostly stress-free and a lot of fun! Day 1:
