More than 100 countries and 600 athletes competed in the 2015 IWF World Championships held in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The event is held every other year and the 2015 event boasted the largest number of countries that has ever participated in the IWF World Championships. The competition included eight weight classes for men and seven weight classes for women. "Houston partnered with USA Weightlifting on what has internationally been remarked as the best world championships of all time, firmly establishing the city as a world-class city for international sporting events and the U.S. as a destination of choice for weightlifting," Phil Andrews said. "Partnering with the Houston community leaves a lasting legacy for us in weight- lifting." The last time the United States hosted the IWF World Championships was 1987 for the women, held in Daytona Beach, FL, and 1978 for the men, held in Gettysburg, PA. In years past, separate events were held for men and women but now the events are combined into a single event for both genders. After a successful event in 2015, the United States will once again host the competition. In 2017, the IWF World Championships will be hosted in Anaheim, CA, at the Anaheim Convention Center. n J&A Racing is known for its efforts to support healthy lifestyles and the sport of running with its numerous running events throughout Hampton Roads. One of its most fun and unique events is the Crawlin' Crab Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Kilometer and Shell Yeah Challenge in Hampton. The Crawlin' Crab is a weekend extravaganza that kicks off with a Sports and Fitness Expo at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The event's three races — half marathon, 5K and 1K — boast a flat and scenic course that shows off the city of Hampton and its beautiful 400-year history. Half-marathon runners "crawl" past the waterfront in downtown Hampton as they make their way down the historic Chesapeake Avenue and back to the convention center. The 5K starts and finishes in front of the convention center. "Hampton provides a gorgeous setting for the event," Jerry Frostick said. "The city's historic downtown area and the two and a half miles down the Chesapeake Bay are incredibly scenic and enjoyable for runners. It's one of the most scenic tracks in the country." Last year, runners from 35 states made their way to Hampton to partake in the weekend event, which is capped off with a post-race party featuring live music, food and a craft brew festival — something for which J&A Racing is particularly known. n Crawlin' Crab Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Kilometer & Shell Yeah Challenge Amy and Jerry Frostick, Co-Owners and Co-Race Directors, J&A Racing Hampton, VA Josh Wilkinson/Lifting Life
