Page 26 of 59 November 2016 27 Special Feature: NEW & RENOVATED SPORTS VENUES added six basketball courts and volleyball courts, making it the largest basketball facility in Kansas and one of only a few sports facilities in the nation with 12 bas- ketball courts under one roof. The expan- sion to the venue, which opened just two years ago, included a mezzanine level, a new concession area and an updated coaches' hospitality area with a designat- ed private entrance and televisions that can live-stream all courts simultaneous- ly. The expansion added 54,000 square feet to bring the total for the facility to 104,000. Hutchinson Sports Arena Kicks Off $29.5 Million Expansion & Renovation HUTCHINSON — The 7,500-seat Hutchinson Sports Arena has initiated a nearly $30 million renovation and ex- pansion. The aging structure will get new plumbing, electrical and heating systems, the addition of air conditioning and new locker rooms. A new entrance and lobby on the south end, three new gyms on the north end, a new weight room, addition- al restrooms and a Hall of Fame will be built at the venue. It's scheduled to be completed in April 2017. The communi- ty voted to approve a 0.35 percent sales tax increase to fund the improvements to the arena, in large part to maintain its position as host to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, which it has held since 1949. That decision helped secure a new 25-year contract to continue hosting it. ► Cedar Point Sports Center, Sandusky, OH
