AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Tim Finchem, PGA TOUR Commissioner, has been named World Golf Foundation (WGF) Chairman for 2016. He succeeds Pete Bevacqua, CEO of the PGA of America. Finchem became Commissioner of the PGA TOUR in 1994. Now enter- ing his 26th year with the organization, he has played an integral role in strength- ening the PGA TOUR's position as one of the most successful, well-respected sports organizations in the world, and his leadership has helped foster the growth of the game, both domestically and internationally. During his tenure, the PGA TOUR has raised more than $1 billion of the $2 bil- lion-plus raised in its history for charitable organizations. Additionally, Finchem has been instrumental in the for- mation of the International Federation of PGA Tours and WGF. His personal dedication to the success of The First Tee has led to the establishment of nearly 200 chapters, which have reached 6.5 million young people in the last decade. "As a caretaker and ambassador of the game, I look forward to leading the World Golf Foundation's Board as we take the game to new heights in 2016," said Finchem. "With the Olympics on the horizon, it is an exciting time for the industry as we introduce golf to new audiences around the world." Venues New Sports Complex Coming To Birmingham Suburb BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—City offcials have approved a plan to build a $70 million sports complex in Hoover, to be built on 120 acres just south of the city of Birmingham. It will include a covered walkway connecting it to the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, a 10,800-seat base- ball stadium. Plans for the complex include six soccer/lacrosse/ football felds, eight softball/ baseball felds, 15 tennis courts and a two-mile track. The facility will also house a 141,000-square-foot indoor space for sports, tradeshows, meetings, banquets and other events. The indoor portion will be built to accommodate a football or soccer feld, regulation-size basketball and volleyball courts or six indoor tennis courts. According to the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Hoover Sportsplex could have an economic impact of $27 million a year. "We believe that's a conservative impact based on the numbers we've seen from activity at the Birmingham Crossplex," CVB president J. John Oros, Jr., said. "This facility will add a new dimension to Birmingham's fourishing sports market, allowing us to offer an expanded inven- tory of venues for sporting events." The Birmingham Crossplex opened in 2011 and is a $55 million aquatic center and indoor track sports complex. The venue includes facilities for indoor track and feld, competitive swimming and diving, volleyball and more. A completion date for the Hoover Sportsplex has not yet been announced. New And Renovated Facilities Expand Hosting Opportunities WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– Several new and renovated sports facilities are adding to Winston-Salem's capacity to host sports events. Among these is the new National Cycling Center (NCC), which is set to open May 2016. Affliated with USA Cycling, the three-level, 42,000-square-foot facility SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In late 2015, the Sacramento Kings announced that Golden 1 Center will offer the world's most connected indoor sports and entertainment venue as the result of a new multi-year agreement with Comcast Corporation. Scheduled to open in Fall 2016, the LEED-Gold certifed multi- use facility will feature a unique indoor-outdoor design with a capacity of 17,500, located at the core of 1.5 million square feet of retail and restaurant space. According to Kings President Chris Granger, Comcast Business will install the back-end infrastructure needed to provide free Wi-Fi for fans, power the Kings mobile app, and supply cloud-based voice and unifed communications services for team members at the arena and at the team's corporate offces. As a result, the Internet connection at Golden 1 Center, as well as the public plaza and Downtown Commons (DOCO), will be more than 17,000 times faster than the average home Internet connection, with the ability to handle more than 225,000 Instagram photo posts per second.
