Florence Situated in the northwest corner of Alabama along the banks of the Tennessee River, Florence is the largest city in an area known as "The Shoals." The city offers scenic views and a num- ber of opportunities for sports including fshing, baseball and softball. Hotel rooms: 1,200 Hotel tax rate: 11 percent Major facilities: Florence Sportsplex has fve baseball felds, eight softball felds and six soccer felds (one of which can be converted to a football feld). Cox Creek Complex has 12 lighted tennis courts and a skate park. North Florence Soccer Complex houses two soccer felds. Royal Avenue Recreation Center has four lighted tennis courts and a swimming pool. Veteran's Memorial Park features six lighted tennis courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, three soft- ball felds and three baseball felds. Blackberry Trail Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course. Foley Foley is a coastal community with an array of attractions, accommodations and restaurants. The city is also just nine miles from the sugar white beaches of Alabama's Gulf Coast. Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are fam- ily-friendly towns and sporting event destinations located along 32 miles of the white sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico with lodging, dining options and a number of venues for sporting events. Hotel rooms: 17,000 Hotel tax rate: 11 percent Major facilities: David L. Bodenhamer Center offers one gym and one indoor pool. The 5,000-square-foot George C. Meyer Tennis Center consists of 12 hard surface courts and six Rubeco courts. Gulf Shores Sportsplex & Softball Complex features a multi-use feld house, one football feld, one baseball feld, one soc- cer feld, one track and six softball felds. Johnnie Sims Park houses two youth baseball felds, one softball feld, one high school base- ball feld, two outdoor basketball courts and a skate park. The Orange Beach Aquatic Center has one Junior Olympic pool. Orange Beach Sportsplex con- sists of fve softball felds, fve baseball felds, two soccer/football felds and one multi-purpose feld. In addition to some of the top tourist attractions in the state, the city has a number of facilities to suit most any sport or budget.
