January 2016 32 www.sportseventsmagazine.com SPORT Report t signifcant amount of work, we are see- ing signifcant change for the better in how coaches are prepared, players are taught, parents are informed and safety is addressed," he said. "The challenge is to continue this momentum for the good of young athletes and have more leaders across football and all sports join us." Venue Needs Selecting the right site for competitions is essential, Hallenbeck said. "The key to a successful event is the venue itself." USA Football's most successful events have felds in excellent condition and meet the organization's standards for safety, including accessible AEDs, pad- ded goal posts, runoff space between the end of the feld and any obstructions. In addition, venue infrastructure is important, Hallenbeck said. This encompasses ample parking, lights, access to power, permanent restrooms and concessions stands. "Our high-level events also require a stadium feld with a press box and score- board," he said. Security is the frst priority when looking for a venue to host Pop Warner events, Butler said. Second is availability of hotel rooms. "The good news is we have competi- tions around the country as well we re- gional competitions, which allow hosting opportunities," Butler said. The organization holds 16 regional championships - eight in football and eight in dance. About three-quarters of those are held Thanksgiving weekend, "which is ideal," Butler said. Families are off work and school and venues are generally available that time of year. While the Pop Warner football championships draw participation in the hundreds, four of its events need venues that accommodate 9,000 to 10,000 peo- ple. Cheerleading events draw the larger numbers, he said. n It's the roar of the crowd, the beat of a heart, (800) 624-6435 | WWW.VISITMIDLANDTEXAS.COM The Sports & Entertainment Associat on of Midland (SEAM) is here to make your next event a success.
