CVBs & Sports Commissions Sponsored Content December 2015 100 ooking for the perfect destination to hold your outdoor adventure sporting event, tournament or competition? Then look no further than the Pocono Mountains. The Pocono Mountains ( is a Mecca for outdoor adventure sports. Over the last few years, more than 60 event producers selected the Pocono Mountains as their outdoor arena. The Pocono Mountains Convention & Visitors Bureau has been actively pro- moting the recreational use of its 2,400 square miles nestled in Northeastern Pennsylvania encompassing Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties. We encourage you to get outdoors and become one with nature. The Pocono Mountains has 260 miles of biking and hiking trails, 170 miles of river to raft, float and paddle on and 150 miles of lakes for fishing and boating. There are exhilarating treetop ropes courses to be found throughout the region. These exhilarating obstacle courses are set in the natural mountain environment, with aerial obstacles including ziplines, suspended bridges, scramble nets and swinging logs suspended between trees. The Pocono Moun- tains prides itself in signature events like The Warrior Dash, Spartan Sprint, Super Spartan, Krell Adven- ture Games, long dis- tance events, triathlons, marathons, half mar- athons and countless 5k runs road and trail. Health, wellness and adventure are the driving forces; however most of our adventure races feature a philanthropic approach. National, state and local non-profit and charitable organizations benefit from the fundraising component. Recent additions to the Pocono Mountains in the convention space will provide event planners more options for sports tournaments, dance and cheer competitions. Our region is a 90-minute drive from the major metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia, making it easily accessible from I-80, I-84, I-476, I-81 and I-78. With the influx of runners, mountain bikers, kayakers, and adventure course enthusiasts, wellness tourism and train- ing clubs make year-round visits. At this four-season destination with close to 10,000 rooms in inventory, athletes and spectators will hit the ground run- ning and then can soothe at one of our nationally recognized destination spas. Our team will help you scout locations and connect you with the stakeholders for permits and logistics. The Pocono Mountains has always been green. However, there is more to this green destination than 127 varieties of trees! The Pocono Mountains is com- mitted to enhancing the economic and environmental well-being of our region. From the beginning of the conservation movement in the 19th century at Grey Towers to one of the most environmen- tally friendly sports venues at Pocono Raceway, the Pocono Mountains and its attractions have a long commitment to protecting our greatest resources. This value resonates with outdoor adventure types and draws visitors from urban areas seeking the mountain fresh air and the wooded backdrop. n L Pocono Mountains: Your Adventure Destination David Jackson VP of Sales (570) 236-1699 or (800) 722-9199 Destination Features: • 2,400 square miles • Seven major ski areas • Nine State Parks • Two National Parks • 26 miles of the Appalachian Trail • Highest Point: 2,654 Feet • Lowest Point: 340 Feet • 150 Lakes • 170 River Miles • 260 Hiking and Biking Trails • Proximity to Major Markets To learn more about our adventure sport events for 2016 or to schedule your event in the Pocono Mountains, visit or con- tact the Pocono Mountains CVB Sales Team at (800)722-9199.
