www.sportseventsmagazine.com December 2015 21 SPECIAL FEATURE: CVBS & SPORTS COMMISSIONS I grew up spending summer days in Wisconsin Dells with my family. If we weren't at a waterpark, we could be found boating along the Wisconsin River, waterskiing and stopping to picnic. I fell in love with this place and the memories that Wisconsin Dells created. When I was a kid, there were no indoor waterparks or amazing sport facilities. These innovative additions are now what I enjoy with my children. Though my dream of becoming a Tommy Bartlett Show skier fell through, I did eventually fnd my way back to Wisconsin Dells. Representing "The Waterpark Capital of the World!®" today, is just as excit- ing as dreaming of standing atop a water ski pyramid in the ski show had been as a child. n #lovethedells I a s c T b W i n n Kyra Popp - Sales Manager, Wisconsin Dells Visitor & Convention Bureau, Inc. A Little Something Personal... While attending college full-time in my early 30's, I came to the conclusion that even with an advanced degree and a love for sports, I probably wasn't going to fnd myself working in the front ofce for the Red Sox. However, a class project led me down the sports tourism road, one I hadn't known existed. That road led me to a CVB in Massachusetts when another turn of events had me looking south to North Carolina. Thanks to a colleague, what was a fve-year plan quickly turned into six months and I found myself in Charlotte, surrounded by NASCAR stars. The economy would dictate my next move, which as fortune would have it, brought me to Visit Winston-Salem where I've been for more than six years! n Bonny Bernat - Sports & Events Sales Manager, Visit Winston-Salem I feel fortunate to work in an industry that I believe in and that has helped me meet some of the most amazing people on the planet. Think of me as a crazy best friend who will do anything possible to make life better, easier and more fun! My love of Stephen King novels and Criminal Minds episodes are in contrast to my positive outlook, but that's what makes people interesting. I've never met an animal I didn't like and am a bleeding heart for causes I believe in. Each and every day I try to live the best life I can! n Judi Hess - Manager of Tourism & Special Events, Greater Binghamton (NY) CVB Our business is about so much more than felds and facilities; competitors and competitions. The beauty of the sports events industry is our people. We thought it would be fun to share a little something personal from sports commission and CVB executives from various regions across the U.S. We are bold, innovative, strategic, enthusiastic, dedicated, charming, perceptive and extraordinary. As diferent as we may be, we're connected as one. We illustrate the doers and the shakers throughout the sports events world.
