Gulf Coast Region Mississippi's Gulf Coast region boasts 62 miles of scenic shoreline along with a variety of venues for sporting events of all sizes. Most complexes are located near lodging, shopping, dining and attractions. Hotel rooms: 14,000 Major facilities: The 250-acre Gulfport Sportsplex offers nine baseball felds and four international-sized soccer felds. Gautier Soccer Complex houses nine felds. Helena Complex consists of four softball felds and fve baseball felds. St. Martin Complex features three softball felds, six baseball felds, two football felds and eight tennis courts. Vancleave Complex encompasses four softball felds, fve baseball felds, one football feld and six tennis courts. Convention center: The Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center is a 400,000-square-foot, beachfront facility with a 127,100-square-foot exhibit hall. Kirk Fordice Equine Center hosts a variety of equine events in its arena. Veterans Memorial Stadium is a multi-purpose venue that can accommodate 60,492. Mississippi Basketball and Athletics is a 55,000-square-foot facility outftted with fve basketball courts and four volleyball courts. Smith-Wills Stadium is a 5,200- seat, multi-use facility for baseball, foot- ball and other outdoor sports. Convention center: The Jackson Convention Complex offers more than 330,000 square feet of space and hosts all sorts of indoor sports, including volley- ball, gymnastics, martial arts, roller derby and cheerleading. The city hosts fshing, cycling, running events, tennis, soccer and soft- ball competitions.
