It is the national governing body/high performance management organization for six adaptive sports: summer sports swimming; cycling; track and field, the latter tagged by the organization as simply "athletics"; and winter sports alpine skiing, Nordic skiing (biathlon and cross-country skiing) and snowboarding. U.S. Paralympics is tasked with putting together the U.S. Paralympic team to compete in the summer and winter Paralympic Games and other international competitions. "We'll take about 230 athletes to Toronto for the upcoming Parapan American Games," said Rick Adams, chief of paralympic sport and NGB orga- nizational development for the U.S. Olympic Committee.
