www.sportseventsmagazine.com August 2015 25 t NATURAL Venues Greenville, S.C., is a "huge cycling and running community," said Robin Wright, senior sales d irector for Visit Greenville. For 12 years, USA Cycling has worked with Greenville to hold its events, including the 2015 USA Cycling Professional Criterium and Team Time Trial National Championships, which it will host again in 2016. For running enthusiasts, Greenville offers the Swamp Rabbit Trail, an 18.7-mile "Rails to Trails" path that runs along the Reedy River. The area hosts numerous triathlon events, including the recently announced USA Triathlon- Duathlon National Championship in 2018- 19. The run-bike-run race will begin at Furman University and wind through the foothills, "making for a beautiful course," Wright said. Greenville also hosted the 2015 Geico Bassmaster Classic in February at Lake Hartwell in neighboring Anderson County. The new Green Pond Landing and Event Facility played a major role in the return of the Bassmaster Classic, Wright said. The site, which had been just a modest single-ramp launch for a half decade, now features a three-lane concrete ramp that measures more than 280 feet long. That investment paid off for the B assmaster tournament and expo, which set records for the number of attendees and for the number of boats sold. The expo was held at the TD Convention Center in Greenville and the weigh-in was held at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Visit Greenville partners with bordering c ommunities for large events such as the part- nership with Anderson County for the Bassmaster Classic, Wright said. "They have the lake, we don't," she said. "They couldn't do it alone, and we couldn't do it alone." n Natural Venue KNOW HOW: Work with a community where your sport is growing and you have plenty of support in local clubs. This will help you devel- op a strong volunteer pool. —Robin Wright, Visit Greenville Beautiful Spots & Supportive Community In Greenville, S.C.
