www.sportseventsmagazine.com August 2014 7 Industry Washington County CVA Promotes Kearsley BEAVERTON, Ore.—The Washington County Visitors Association (WCVA) announced the promotion of Corey Kearsley to director of sales for the non-profit destination marketing organiza- tion. Kearsley joined the WCVA in May 2011 as sports sales manager, where he was responsible for attracting sporting events to Washington County that resulted in overnight stays in the destina- tion. In his new role, he will oversee the non-profit organi- zation's sales team and over- all sales efforts. Events Independence Hosts Ringside World Championships INDEPENDENCE, Mo.— Independence hosted the Ringside World Championship amateur boxing tournament July 30-Aug. 2 at the Independence Events Center. The amateur boxing tourna- ment brought more than 4,000 boxers, attendees, exhibitors, and industry professionals to the Kansas City region. This competition typically draws athletes from around the globe and provides the largest competitive opportunity for amateur boxers in the world. Held over four days, Ringside World Championships con- sisted of six rings, seven ses- sions, 1,500 athlete entries and more than 1,000 bouts. Event Showcases IAAF's Commitment To Responsible Sport EUGENE, Ore.—Eugene— TrackTown USA—and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) partnered at the recent Oregon 2014 to implement IAAF's Athletics for a Better World (ABW) program and pursue the Evergreen level of certifi- cation by the Council for Responsible Sport. The partnership was activat- ed during the recent IAAF World Junior Championship Oregon 2014, which was held at historic Hayward Field. The ABW program harness- es the commitment and energy of the worldwide athletics fam- ily to inspire lasting change for social good. Oregon 2014 saw a broad range of social and environ- mental activations, all of which were tracked through the coun- cil's certification system, ensuring transparency and cre- ating a framework that can be replicated. "Globally, we are seeing events taking action to reduce their impacts," said Keith Peters, the council's executive director. "Oregon 2014 ranks at the top of the list, hence, the reason they are in the running for the council's first Evergreen certification for an international event." Activations included the City of Eugene's Starting Block and USA Track & Field's Field Day programs to introduce youth to the sport, free water bottle filling sta- tions, and healthy meal options highlighting local farms. All event operations at Hayward Field were powered by 100 percent carbon-free GreenPower from the Eugene Water and Electric Board. Cal Ripken World Series Slated For Aberdeen ABERDEEN, Md.—The 15 th annual Cal Ripken World Series (CRWS) will take place Aug. 8–16 at The Ripken Experience complex in Aberdeen. The CRWS is where the world comes to play, the Ripken Way, and is the culmi- nating tournament of the Babe Ruth League's 12U Cal Ripken Division. The World Series unites the 10 best teams from across the United States, with eight inter- national teams from Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, New Zealand and Puerto Rico. Games are played on the fields at The Ripken Experience complex, including Cal Sr.'s Yard, a two-thirds replica of Camden Yards. ➤ The United States Fastpitch Association held its annual World Series in July at Frank Brown Park Panama City Beach, Fla.
