It is a signature event for the city. KENTUCKY The Kentucky Derby might be a major part of what put Kentucky on the map as a sports state, but the Bluegrass State can certainly hold its own when it comes to other sporting events. Kentucky hosts hundreds of sports competitions every year, from local and regional events to national and international events like the Breeders' Cup, the World Cyclo-Cross Championships and the Ryder Cup. Team Kentucky and the Kentucky Sports Authority work diligently to bring well-known events to the state year after year. "Team Kentucky, an organization of 20 communities, focuses on bringing sports competitions to their communities, and if an event wouldn't work in one community, that partner will suggest the event to another Team Kentucky community for whom the event would be a better fit," said Kevin Nuss, executive director of the Kentucky Sports Authority. "In addition, the Kentucky Sports p. Authority acts as a facilitator to the Team Kentucky partner group. So an event owner can be assured that their information will be distributed to all Team Kentucky partners."
