The area boasts Calvert Regional Park and is unique in that it's located just five miles from the Pennsylvania border, eight miles from the Delaware border and 20 miles from the New Jersey border. The area offers small town charm, a national wildlife refuge and waterways, bays, rivers and marshes. The 5th Annual IRONMAN Maryland featured more than 2,000 endurance athletes in the Mid-Atlantic's only IRONMAN event. Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium is a 5,500-seat Minor League ballpark. Skate Frederick features two NHL-size rinks. With beautiful terrain, the area's natural surroundings offer an amazing backdrop for outdoor events such as triathlon and cycling. Garrett County also boasts unique venues such as Adventure Sports Center International, a recirculating whitewater facility that hosted the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. Hotel rooms: 4,000 Major facilities: The course at Adven- ture Sports Center International is just over 1,700 feet long and drops 24 feet from the top to bottom. The Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex at Garrett College features a 25-meter competition pool with six lanes, as well as a gym. Wisp Resort is the only downhill ski resort in Maryland and boasts 132 acres of ski terrain with 32 slopes and trails. The area is home to Patapsco Valley ► HARFORD Cedar Lane Regional Park is a 110-acre multi-sport recreation complex that hosts tournaments and leagues. The complex features 12 grass and one turf field with a new state-of-the-art scoreboard with LED video display and sound system. The turf field also has seating for 900. The park also includes a 1.46-mile walking/jogging/biking trail and training obstacles. n
