SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT Natural Venues Greensboro, North Carolina: Tournament Town contact: "T ournament Town" offers exceptional athletic venues and quality and affordable accommodations and recre- ational opportunities. These all make Greensboro, N.C., a winning sports city. The new Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) features a warm-up pool, a compe- tition pool, a diving well, and a seating capacity for 2,500. It meets NCAA and FINA standards and is adjacent to the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The Greensboro Coliseum Complex offers 23,500 arena seats, more than 150,000 square feet of exhibit and meet- ing space, and a 5,000-seat general setup for basketball, wrestling and other sport- ing events. The Greensboro Sportsplex is a 106,000-square-foot multi-sports facility offering hockey, basketball, volleyball, badminton and soccer. The Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T; State University seats 20,000 and is noted for its Mondo surface and IAAF certification. The Bryan Park Soccer Complex MacPherson Stadium seats 2,000 and features 18 additional fields directly adja- cent to it. The Spartan Soccer Stadium seats 5,040 at UNC Greensboro. The Carolyn S. Allen Athletic Complex offers four lighted combination softball/baseball fields with championship- quality fields sodded with Bermuda grass and fences at a distance of 300 feet. Proehlific Park features lighted base- ball/softball fields; three multi-purpose fields for soccer, lacrosse and football; three full-sized basketball courts; three vol- leyball courts; and a 70-yard by 45-yard turf field. Barber Park features the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion, with eight plexi-court tennis courts and four combination basketball/volleyball courts. With more than 9,500 hotel rooms in Greensboro and 16,000 in the immediate area, the city can host events of all sizes.
