The Asheville Spartan Race is in its third year, growing from 6,000 partici- pants in 2015 to a three-day event with Super, Sprint and time trials with an antic- ipated 12,000 participants this year. The historic Biltmore Estates hosted the 2016 USA Cyclo-Cross National Championships in 2016 and the annual Mountain Sports Festival is held each Memorial Day Weekend at Carrier Park adjacent to the French Broad River. The event includes Cyclo-Cross, a 10K, Ultimate Frisbee, a BMX Street Jam, yoga and water sports. The Blue Ridge Relay and the River Ruckus CrossFit competition also at Carrier Park are other popular events. www.exploreasheville.com or www.ashevillesportscommission.com 2 Medford, Oregon Located in Southern Oregon in the heart of the Rogue Valley, Medford's scenery includes rugged mountains, lakes and the Rogue River. The Rogue Valley and Rogue River pro- vide ample opportunities for outdoor adventure sports. The area is also home to twin volcanic plateaus and the Upper and Lower Table Rocks draw about 45,000 hikers each year. Prescott Park provides 1,740 acres of hiking and mountain biking. This part of Oregon hosts whitewater kay- aking and rafting competitions, obstacle course races, Cyclo- Cross events, mountain biking and more. With a burgeoning wine scene, world-class culture and artisan food, visitors are discovering Medford's diversity. Medford's traditional and non-traditional events include the King of the Rogue water sports competition, Pedals 'n Pears, Granite Man off-road run, the Wild Rogue Relay race, and the 5K and 10K Tough as Nails Trail Run. The Gold Hill Whitewater Center hosted the 2016 United States Rafting Association R4 National Championships with nine teams competing in the men's and women's divi- sions.
