With quality venues, affordable rates and a friendly atmosphere, sports rights holders will find OKC to be one of the most accommodating destinations in the Southwest. OKC boasts a variety of top-notch venues such as Ches- apeake Energy Arena, home to the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder and host of the NCAA Division I Wom- en's Basketball Oklahoma City Regional in March 2016. And right across the street is the 15,000-seat arena at the Cox Con- vention Center, which can be configured for everything from ice hockey to cheerleading competitions. Oklahoma City is also home to USA Softball — formally ASA/ USA Softball. Their world-class softball stadium is undergoing a $20 million renovation, growing from 5,000 permanent seats to 9,000, and adding an upper deck and an underground complex that will include dugouts, locker rooms and meeting spaces. The city has hosted the NCAA Division I Women's College World Series every summer since 1990 and posted the highest attendance record in softball history in 2015. Home to the U.S. Olympic & Paralym- pic Training Site for rowing and canoe/ kayak, the Oklahoma City Boathouse District sits along seven miles of the Oklahoma River and is the first water race course in the world with permanent stadium lighting. The most recent addition to the Boathouse District is RIVER- SPORTS Rapids OKC Whitewater Rafting & Kay- aking Center, a $45.2 million, 11-acre, state-of- the-art aquatic adventure facility, which opened in May 2016 and has already hosted the USOC Road to Rio, US Rowing Central Youth Rowing and the Olympic Trails for USA Canoe/ Kayak Whitewater Slalom. Other notable sporting events in OKC are Big 12 softball, Big 12 Baseball and Big 12 Women's Basketball. Oklahoma City's affordability paired with the ease of getting around makes it very appealing to event rights holders and teams alike. n O In OKC, We Believe In Sports OKC-ing is believing. From World Series softball at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium to world championship regattas just steps from downtown, OKC has a venue for sporting events of every shape and size. From little league dreamers to big league champions. If OKC isn't on your list, it's time to OKC what you've been missing. Talty O'Connor, Creator, S.P.O.R.T.S.
