Home Subscribe EDITOR'S PLAY-BY-PLAY The differentia Issue: Featuring The Little Things That Make A Big Difference On the cover of this issue you will see a note about this being "The Differentia Issue." In this special issue, we are highlighting the little things that make a big difference. Throughout the issue, look for the "differentia" graphic to learn about what makes a person, place or venue special. What makes your organization stand out above the crowd? Share your "dif- ferentia" story with us at info@sportseventsmagazine.com. Difference Maker: CVB Exec Brings His Own Team To Town An individual who is making a big difference in his community is Aaron McCreight, CEO of the Casper, Wyo., Convention and Visitors Bureau. Not content to wait for someone else to fill the gap as the city's rookie league baseball team exited in favor of another location, McCreight, a self- professed "baseball guy," bought a college league team and brought it to Casper as a replacement. With the Casper Cutthroats' first regular season winding down, McCreight shares his incredibly unique story with us in this issue. "I've never been the guy to sit and hope something would happen. I believe in creating your own destiny, and one of my dreams was to own my own baseball team." Read more about McCreight and how CVB and city leaders embraced his decision to bring his own team to town. Sports Events & Vacations: A Common Sense Combination In this economy, it just makes good sense to help athletes and their families combine a vacation with your event. That's what Contributing Editor Marcia Bradford found when she interviewed event planners and tourism professionals. "It's helpful to the athletes and their families if they can combine sports competitions with at least a day or two of vacation experiences," said James Parker of the Amateur Athletic Union, adding that smaller cities often hit the mark perfectly when it comes to creating a welcoming and activity- filled environment. Hear from Parker as well as tourism executives from around the United States about what entices players and their families to extend sports events with vacations.
