The CYC is the highlight of the youth GAA calendar every year in North America and Canada, according to Padraic Walsh, chairman for the 2017 CYC Local Organizing Committee. %XIIDORLVWKH¿UVWFLW\ awarded the CYC games that is not in the traditional rotation of New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco. Formed in 1884, the GAA is Irelandís largest sporting organization. It is celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting organizations in the world today. Both regional and club units are now well established in the United States, Canada, Australia, Britain, China, mainland Europe and many other parts of the world. More than 400 clubs promote the activities of the GAA around the world, including the local Buffalo Fenians GAA. Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny lauded the Buffalo CYC organizing committee for their efforts in landing the tournament here. The Gaelic Games is just the latest example of Buffaloís efforts to attract college and amateur sporting events that draw thousands to the area and generate millions for the economy, according to Patrick Kaler, president and CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara.
