That's why now is the perfect time to honor and recognize our industry's best and brightest—inspiring us all to explore fresh ideas, pursue personal and profes- sional development and strive for excellence in all areas of the sports events industry. So with no further ado, please join us as we recognize excellence in the sports events industry with our annual "éclat" awards—honoring industry professionals who, just as the word is defned, have exhibited brilliance of performance, dazzling achievement and whopping success in the planning of their events. Not only are we recognizing sports event planners for their contribution to the sports events industry, but we are also shining a spotlight on several parks and recreation professionals who work tirelessly to ensure that their beloved felds and courts are in top-notch condition for our events. The people named in this special issue were selected by their peers for tak- ing sports initiatives to new heights, challenging tradition or paving the way for others in the industry to achieve excellence.
