This year, the organization is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Founded in 1888, AAU is the oldest amateur sports organization in the United States. In fact, until the 1970s, AAU was the national governing body for nearly all Olympic Sports, said Debra Horn, senior sports manager for AAU Baseball. "The motto of AAU is ʻSports for All, Forever,ʼ" said Horn. "Our mission is to offer amateur sports programs through a volunteer base for all people to have the physical, mental and moral development of amateur athletes and to promote good sportsmanship and good citizenship." ■ 36 2014 Baseball/Softball Sourcebook www.SportsEventsMagazine.com
